We’ve stayed at Hotel Liberty Offenburg twice, seven years apart, and the second visit was even better. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and full of character. You can sense the building’s past without giving up modern comforts, and its history is a big part of the experience. It was built as a prison in the 1840s, used until 2009, and later turned into a boutique hotel. The owners kept details like the thick stone walls and former cell layouts while blending in modern design. The staff have been warm, professional, and accommodating on both visits. English is widely spoken, which made things easy for us as international travelers. Breakfast was fresh, varied, and something to look forward to every morning. This is the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in, and well worth a trip to Offenburg.

We had Christmas Eve dinner here in 2025, a second visit for my partner and me, and once again it was outstanding. The menu was excellent, and Manuela, who looked after our table, gave wonderful service. Compliments to the whole restaurant team and to the kitchen under the new chef. We highly recommend the restaurant and hotel LIBERTY for their lovely mix of history and modern hospitality.

We found this place by chance while stopping overnight on the way home, and everything worked out beautifully: the room, the setting, the staff, and the food. The restaurant alone is worth a visit. We had the five-course meal and loved it. Our server was both professional and relaxed, which made the evening even better. When the chef heard someone in our party had a gluten allergy, they came over personally to check that everything was all right.

Hotel Liberty’s transformation from a prison, which it was until 2012, is stunning. The atmosphere really impressed me, and the space has been thoughtfully reworked into a hotel and restaurant. The kitchen was excellent and the food outstanding. I’d have liked a little more attention to regional dishes, to showcase the area, but that didn’t take away from a wonderful stay. Thank you.

A beautiful hotel with a great team and superb hospitality. A night in prison doesn’t get better than this, and it’s well worth staying if you get the chance. They put on legendary events too.
