Ostseehotel Baabe family & SPA

Okay.

We were on a short trip to Rügen when we stayed at the Ostseehotel in Baabe, and had a wonderful time. The rooms were modern, and all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nicely presented, with more than enough choice for everyone. We can’t agree with the negative reviews. Thank you!

The room was okay for two, but there were a lot of problems. We checked in around 6-7 pm because check-in wasn’t available indefinitely, and didn’t spot the issues until after 10 pm. If we’d noticed sooner, we would’ve complained straight away. When we raised things the next day, we kept getting a version of "Have a good trip home anyway." The employee tried to get the manager, but he didn’t want to discuss it. I also emailed the hotel with a complaint and still hadn’t heard back after a week. There was a stale smoke smell as soon as we came in, from the designated smoking area by the entrance. It didn’t feel very welcoming, even though the hotel looks quite nice from outside in the dark. The room was very dusty. The toilet had yellow stains and someone else’s hair on it, and there were splashes low on the door. The shower screen was extremely greasy, there was hair in the shower, and the floor didn’t look clean, if it had been cleaned at all. There was hair and dust around the sink too. The wall lamp by the bed was loose and thick with dust. The refrigerator had stains, as if something had spilled inside. At breakfast, plates and glasses had greasy fingerprints, the eggs didn’t look appetizing, and the sugar bowls were dusty like the bedside lamp. The radiator nearby looked as if it hadn’t been wiped in ages. The buffet and entrance area were the same space, and that stale smoke smell was strong there too. Parking cost €12 per day, and the lot hadn’t been plowed or gritted at all. If you can, book another hotel, unless this seems acceptable to you.

We stayed for two nights over New Year's Eve on Rügen, and it was very disappointing. Our room was in the annex, in poor condition and clearly badly in need of renovation. It was extremely cold, with poor insulation, and we couldn’t adjust the heating ourselves because it was controlled centrally. When we complained at reception, they brought us a small space heater that was very noisy. There was dust and cobwebs everywhere, and noticeable mold in the bathroom. The shower was especially unpleasant: it was covered in mold and wouldn’t close properly. Our privacy also wasn’t respected. The "Do Not Disturb" sign was clearly on the door, but someone still knocked to ask whether the heater had made the room warmer. We can’t recommend the hotel in this condition and won’t be coming back. Unfortunately, you have to give at least one star.
