Hotel Meersinn

Although the hotel is well located and the rooms are spacious, it doesn't feel like what I expect from a four-star place. The reception woman wasn't friendly. Bathrobes and slippers cost extra if you want to use the wellness area, and the kitchenette in the room is locked unless you pay a daily fee. The restaurant is next door, which is okay, I guess.

The breakfast really is excellent, and the rooms are beautiful, with wonderfully comfortable beds. We stayed with our dog and bikes, and it was a nice touch to find dog waste bags in the room. There’s no sea view, though. You get either a good view of the street or an unattractive one of the courtyard. Bikes go in an open garage under camera surveillance, and you have to bring your own locks since there’s no locked storage. The room price is among the lowest in the area, but some things cost extra, including spa towels and robes, the mini kitchenette, and parking. We’d happily return to room 304 or another street-facing room on the same floor. The reason for four stars is the odd layout: there’s no hotel lobby, just an unrelated restaurant. Reception is outside the hotel, and you enter through a night door and heavy fire doors into the restaurant’s messy back area, where the lift is. Breakfast is served at another hotel next door. Without that setup, it would be five stars.

The spa was in awful shape when we tried it: there were no towels, the changing room lights were broken, the saunas were cold, and the pool had been drained. A noisy pump made the little atmosphere there even worse. The hotel also seemed neglected, with dirty walls, worn furniture, and a generally rundown feel. On arrival, we were given a key to a room that was already occupied. After several room changes, we were put in a different building in a room category we hadn't booked, supposedly an upgrade, but it was unappealing and nothing like our reservation. They said our original room had gone to another guest who extended their stay. We complained about all of it and got no response or compensation. The next day they did move us to the right room, but the staff were arrogant and dismissive. For the high price, the service and quality just aren't there. The whole stay was awful, and I’d tell people to avoid this place.

We really enjoyed the stay. The hotel was cozy and clean, the staff were very sweet, and breakfast was tasty. The new spa has two saunas, a swimming pool, and a steam room.
