Aparthotel Pension Haus Windhook

We loved our one-night stay at Pension Windhook. The welcome was so friendly that we felt at home right away. From the apartment in the Windhook holiday home, we could see over the dunes to the Baltic Sea, and the dog-friendly beach access was right nearby. The apartment was modern and beautifully furnished, with a fully equipped kitchen and even complimentary tea. The bed was really comfortable, and we slept well. Breakfast was excellent, with fresh egg dishes made to order. We also celebrated my grandfather-in-law’s birthday there. A talented chef made our group a wonderful three-course dinner in the restaurant, and the food and modern setting were both fantastic. It was a lovely, memorable stay, and we’d be happy to return. 😊

We’ve had dinner here three times now, and every fish dish I’ve tried has been outstanding. The salads are excellent too, fresh and crisp with just the right seasoning. The restaurant sits just behind the beach dunes, with a lovely terrace, modern but traditional furnishings, and old pictures I really love. The staff are friendly and attentive. We’ve always brought our Yorkie, and that’s never been a problem. Thanks for that, we’ll definitely be back. ;)

After more than 30 years, I was shocked by how this place has changed. At our reserved family celebration, we ordered at 6 pm and waited until 8:30 pm for the food. The delay was because day guest tables apparently had to be “sold” three times. The staff did their best, but the kitchen was chaotic and the food quality had dropped a lot, which seems to come with this kind of mass production. If the owner cares only about quantity and shows no consideration for staff or guests, that’s questionable. A real shame.

The food was tasty, and we were satisfied with our meal. It was packed that evening, though, and we’d have faced a long wait without a reservation. The room felt too cramped and noisy. Removing one of the big tables would help, because the atmosphere suffers as it is.
