Koopmanns Hotel und Lädchen

The breakfast buffet was a real bright spot: lots of choice, hot scrambled eggs and meat each morning, plus a good coffee machine with tea, coffee, espresso, and hot cocoa. It was especially nice after a chilly walk to the beach. The staff were friendly and polite. We visited over Valentine's Day weekend, out of season, and the hotel still had a fair number of guests. The lot is small. We got the last space on our first night, and once had to park in a tow zone. The hotel sits on a hill, and the brick sidewalk got very slippery in the snow. There is a lift, but people with accessibility needs should be aware of the conditions. The rooms are small, though nicely decorated, and the bed was comfortable. Getting to the far side of the bed and the balcony meant squeezing between the bed and bathroom wall. There weren't many pillows; we brought our own, so I can't say if more were available. The sewage smell was the biggest issue. It reached the room within minutes, and we had to keep the bathroom fan running throughout our stay. The sinks have straight pipes instead of curved ones that help keep sewer gases from coming up. The shower water smelled awful too, and I was glad I had a shower cap. I noticed the same odor around town, during a wet, snowy, rainy weekend. We had an okay stay and could see they had tried to make the rooms comfortable, but we probably won't return because of the smell.

Check-in and checkout were both handled perfectly. The room felt modern and cozy, and the balcony was a nice touch. Worth a visit, and thank you.

The staff were consistently friendly and helpful, and breakfast was decent, even if nothing special. Locally sourced sausage, cheese, or honey would be a nice change from the mass-produced options everywhere. The price felt mid-range for what seemed like a budget hotel. Rooms aren't available until 4 p.m., and reception closes at that time too, so you have to collect your key from a locker with nobody there to help. I paid extra for a “comfort room,” but at 22 square meters it was tiny, and the website photo used a wide-angle lens. The bathroom was about a metre wide and three metres long. Despite the claim that the modern bathroom “leaves nothing to be desired,” it had no shelf for toiletries, and the shower door was about 20 cm too short, letting water out. The usual samples and Rituals bottles were missing, which I could overlook. The TV wasn't smart, so there was no Netflix, streaming service, or media library. There was no minibar or fridge either. After 4 p.m. there was no room service because of staff shortages, and not even a vending machine. There also wasn't a lobby where guests could have a drink, even one they'd brought themselves. The balcony was pleasant, but the white paint on the wood was peeling and badly needed varnish. Parking was €15 a night for a gravel space, though the invoice called it a “garage.” When the lot filled, guests had to use a second lot 300 metres away for the same price.

We felt very comfortable, and the location was excellent. The room was spacious and tastefully furnished, and the staff were helpful and very friendly. Breakfast was good and ran until 1 p.m. The bread was so delicious I would have taken some home, but it wasn't for sale. A kettle and small fridge in the room would have been welcome.
