Halbinsel Peenemünde

Peenemünde is a hidden gem on the German Baltic coast, and I enjoy staying here in every season. The comfortable apartments welcome pets and have kitchens, which is a real plus for me. You can choose a place with morning sun or afternoon sun. They also rent lovely rustic houses for larger families. The beach here is just perfect, with clear water, white sand, and nature all around. There isn’t much going on in town off season, but that suits me. And of course, without Peenemünde there would be no man on the moon.

The apartment itself was very nice, clean, well equipped, and in a great location. My low rating comes from what happened when my friends and I checked out and paid for four rooms for two nights. We had prepaid 50% by credit card, but were told the balance had to be paid in cash, with no cards accepted. If we’d been told this during online booking or at check-in, that would have been fair enough and we could have planned for it. Instead, an unhelpful, arrogant woman at reception sprang the cash-only rule on us, which was a shame.

A great place for fishing or just camping, with nice people who speak English too. The Historical-technical museum and the Toy museum are nearby, and this is a must for rocket and spaceflight enthusiasts. You’re in the middle of nowhere, so be aware that the nearest cash machine is 7 km away in Karlshagen, where there are also lots of good restaurants.

We return several times a year and always enjoy being here. It’s a lovely, peaceful spot on Usedom, and the owners and staff at the harbor gallery and campsite are very friendly.
