Hotel Zur Perle

The hotel made a handy base for exploring the area, with beautiful hiking and cycling trails nearby. It’s showing its age, but the new owner and team work hard to make up for that with friendly service. Our room was spacious and clean, and although the bathroom was on the small side, it was adequate and clean too. The traditional food was good, the portions were generous, and the prices were fair. During the pandemic there wasn’t a breakfast buffet, but they brought plenty of cold cuts, cheese, butter, and jam on a separate plate.

The roast pork with potato and bread dumplings was really good, and the schnitzel was both tasty and a huge portion. The food arrived on time. The host was very nice and the staff polite. I’d happily recommend Gasthaus zur Perle, and I’ll be back more often.

The food used to be excellent, and the former owners ran the place with real care and a family feel, despite the hotel’s age and significant need for investment. Since the ownership changed at the start of the year, though, I can’t recommend it anymore. The new owner may be young and keen to learn, but doesn’t seem experienced in this line of work. Breakfast was overslept, cleanliness was disappointing, and the kitchen was below average. The only bright spot was the cold cuts and cheese platter at breakfast, when it actually made it to the table. It’s sad to see such a traditional hotel being run down.

All 35 guests at yesterday’s birthday party were thrilled with the food. It was fantastic and arrived absolutely on time. Huge compliments to the kitchen and the owner. We’d definitely book them again.
