Gala Hotel

The staff were pleasant, and breakfast was good. The room was very nice, with a good ensuite bathroom, and it's clear they've spent a lot on updating and redecorating the hotel. It isn't really close enough to walk to the town's main facilities, though. I gave the room four stars, which feels a bit mean, but the single pillow was one of the most uncomfortable I've ever had to sleep on.

The main problem for us was sleeping, since the mattress and pillows were much too soft. Maybe that's just personal preference, but they still felt way too soft to me. On our last night, an event in the breakfast and restaurant hall had very loud music playing until after midnight. We had a four-month-old baby, and with no lift in the building it was a challenge getting things to and from the room. The parking is behind the building, and getting from the car meant going down some stairs and then back up. The location was lovely, the room very spacious, and the bathroom modern. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, and everything was very clean.

The rooms were smaller than the pictures suggested, and there’s no elevator, just steep stairs up to them. Parking is behind the building on the side of a mountain, and getting to the hotel means climbing two fairly long flights of stairs. In the evening there’s nobody at reception, so you have to call and use a lockbox for your key. We found that any key opened any room, meaning any guest could get into yours. There’s no air-conditioning either. Breakfast tasted good, though they charged €8.50 despite advertising it as free. At least there’s a bed and a shower.

Our dogs were made very welcome, even in the breakfast room, and the staff were helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed the breakfast, too. The room itself was basic, and the noisy floor wasn’t ideal with our little baby. We’d stay again.
