This is about the restaurant, not the hotel. We ate there on Thursday, 6 Feb. 2020, and found the food poor across the board. My partner’s goose stew was so salty that almost no other flavor came through, and they felt thirsty for more than a day afterward. My venison goulash was so tough and dry it was barely edible. It tasted as if it had been stewing forever, maybe it was leftovers. When the waitress asked if we liked the meal, we said no and explained why, but she barely responded. There was no apology or compensation. We seemed to be the only guests that evening.

We stayed at Am Malerweg rather than the Romantik Hotel itself, which may suit hikers especially well. Over two nights a week apart, we had two different rooms, both with enough space for two people. The first was quite dirty, with dust bunnies, a grimy floor, and a large clump of hair in the bathroom; the second seemed better. Wi-Fi depended a lot on where the room was. Breakfast was served at the Romantik Hotel, though there is also a breakfast room in the other building that might be used when it’s full. The meal was fine, with the usual German breakfast spread of bread and rolls, spreads, cheese, and other things. Beds were decent, a bit soft but acceptable. The location was convenient, next to a pub and near the city market.

Breakfast was excellent, and the restaurant has a view of the church. The building is historic and old, right in the middle of town, with a lovely patio that was closed during our visit. Our room, though, felt small and cramped.

It’s an unusual place, but those beds were just too uncomfortable.

The surroundings are lovely, and breakfast was good. The hotel itself was okay, though it felt pricey.
