This was the worst hotel stay I’ve ever had. The rooms were dirty, with spiderwebs, spiders and other flying bugs. The body towels were only hand-towel size, there was no shower gel, and the only soap provided was for hands. I’d never seen toilet paper just one sheet thick before. There were no glasses or kettle, and we couldn’t use the kitchen even to boil water. We could hear people through the wall, and the bed mattress was so old I literally sank into it. I highly recommend staying away from this place.

The family running the place were very friendly and took good care of their guests. Check-in at the machine worked flawlessly with the receipt. The room was beautiful and spacious, breakfast was very nice, and the location is central in town. Thanks so much, we’ll be back!

We were thrilled with our weekend group stay at the Gasthaus zur Sonne. The place is central, with parking available and hiking routes to and around the Wasserkuppe starting right from the hotel. Our clean, spacious rooms were charming and practical, with everything we needed. Check-in at the entrance terminal was easy, and there’s a bakery right next door for breakfast. We’d be happy to return and highly recommend it.

For a pleasant short break, this is an ideal place. The Gasthaus zur Sonne is clean and well kept, with renovated, modern and welcoming rooms and excellent beds. The owners are friendly and attentive. There’s a bakery nearby for breakfast, as well as the Gasthaus Stern restaurant, known for its excellent cuisine. I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

The Wagner family took over this historic house in early 2025 and have put a lot of heart into its renovation and design. It’s exceptionally clean, the rooms are modernly furnished, and the whole building is very well maintained. Being right on the market square makes it a great base for exploring nearby, with plenty of restaurants and cafes within 200 meters. We highly recommend the house and wish the Wagner family all the best!
