Holiday Inn Express and Suites Potsdam

Such a great location in Potsdam, and the hotel is amazing and brand new. Breakfast was excellent. I loved all the staff, especially the receptionists and the lovely guy at the bar. Thanks for everything, hope we'll be back! 😊

We were in Potsdam for the Berlin Marathon in September. The location was handy for getting around and close to the train station for Berlin. Check-in was smooth, with a personable and efficient gentleman at the desk. Breakfast had plenty of good options, and the bar by the lobby could be nice after a long day. Everyone else at the hotel was cool, and we would have given it five stars if not for one employee, Leonard Knauf. Whenever we had to deal with him, he was rude and unhelpful. We were expecting airline-delivered luggage and had told the desk, asking multiple times over the two days we were there. Leonard never let us know it had arrived and didn't answer the phone in the evening. When I came down at 11pm, he said it was there and got it for me. Another evening, around 10:30pm, my husband and I wanted a drink at the bar. Leonard said it was closed because they didn't have enough employees. The lobby and bar were empty, and he said he had “work” to do while typing at his computer. He told us we'd have to wait 30 minutes for another employee to pour two beers. We waited while he worked, and nobody else came in except another guest, who he wouldn't let buy a soda for the same reason. He was rude every time we interacted with him. Avoid contact with him.

They gave an upgrade, and I had a great chat with Chris. I also arranged and got approval for a late 2pm checkout the day before leaving. The next morning, though, staff didn't seem to know about it and kept asking me to check out at 12pm. Still, it was a very pleasant stay.

A big chain hotel in a big city, with modern, nice rooms that are on the small side. Only one elevator was working, and it got busy, so there was often a wait. The location was OK, fairly close to the train station, but a 30-minute walk from the other places we wanted to visit. It was decent, though short on charm. The window faced the street, but only half of it was a window. I don't get it.
