Arkona Residence

We'd be happy to come back. After only four hours, I can already say this is a lovely place to stay. A freshly cut lawn would have been a nice extra, though I wouldn't expect that when arriving on a Sunday. Best wishes to the owners of the Residenz Arkona.

At first, the house seemed great, but the upkeep of the furnishings was disappointing throughout. The garden looked neglected: the lawn needed mowing, plants needed care, the storage box was rusty and broken, and the advertised beach chair was missing. The privacy screen in the photos was gone, and there were only four garden chairs plus two folding ones, making it hard to sit outside with seven people. The gate wouldn't lock, so anyone could enter the property. Inside, several things were broken or in poor condition. The spiral staircase to the Eagle's Nest was unstable and broken, urgently needing repair, and it wasn't childproof. The top handrail on the regular staircase was loose. In both bedrooms the wardrobe backing was loose; in the second bedroom, the drawers and doors were also hard to open. The skylight daylight blind couldn't be fixed in place, and the French door daylight blinds in both bedrooms were broken. The only alternative was to stand outside the windows or use the exterior blinds, which made the rooms completely dark. In the living area, curtains on the two patio doors were broken and some were missing. The electric massage table was missing too, and the mobile phone charging station, which seemed like a good idea, was broken. The bathroom's wooden shelf was moldy and unsuitable. Stainless steel would be easier to clean. The hairdryer was completely unhygienic and urgently needed replacing, which shouldn't cost more than €10. In the kitchen, the refrigerator fell out when opened because its connection to the countertop was broken, and the cabinets were very dirty inside. Wooden cutting boards are hard to clean properly in a vacation rental, so plastic would be more practical. The house is meant for seven people, but the dining table only seats six and there was no seventh chair. The brochures in the house also seemed out of date, referring to 2019/2020 when it was 2022. The pandemic doesn't excuse everything. We had hoped for more at this price. We've been coming to the beautiful island of Rügen for over ten years, and with so many defects we didn't feel the value for money was there. Maybe it could have been acceptable without these problems, but we encountered them all. This is our view of the condition we found, offered as constructive feedback so the landlord can improve things for future guests.

Our group of six had a wonderful week in this secluded villa at the end of the street. The house was fantastic, nicely decorated, and had everything we needed. The host was friendly, and all our questions were answered online. We'd definitely return.

We spent a sunny, relaxing week at the Arkona Residence "Karina" holiday home after visiting Cape Arkona in Putgarten/Rügen, and really recommend it. Forest, fields, the Baltic Sea, and the beach were all an easy walk away. It's very dog-friendly and we didn't lack for anything. A restaurant right next door was convenient, while the setting felt far from the crowds. We came away rested and would give it five stars.
