Come here to relax. The medieval buildings, cobbled streets, and half-timbered houses make Quedlinburg feel like a fairytale, and its old town is incredibly well preserved. There’s history all around, especially at the castle and cathedral. It’s quiet and easy to explore on foot, with little surprises such as cozy cafés and local craft shops along the way. A lovely place for culture, history, and a slower, more authentic feel. Definitely worth visiting.

The musicians from Steinberg are carved into the railing, and the bridge sits naturally in the cityscape. It's a modest little structure, easy to walk past without noticing.

I nearly walked right by it. The bridge is medieval, though hardly any of it can be seen today.

It once gave the quickest route from the Steinbrücken Gate to the market square. This listed medieval bridge crosses the millrace in Quedlinburg, Saxony-Anhalt, and is considered nationally important to transport history. Since it sits below today's ground level, it's hard to spot, and for a long time people forgot about it.

There's a lot of history squeezed into a few meters here. The city's most modern buildings, from around 1900, line the street above the bridge in Art Nouveau style. Close by, near Wordgasse and the Standerbau, Germany's oldest half-timbered house, you're just steps from the market square. Beneath today's pavement, the 23 arches of the stone bridge built in 1229 are still preserved.
