Gästehaus Wahnbek

The location worked well for getting around, with buses nearby and parking in front of the building. But I found the stay disappointing, and the price felt a little high for what I got. I wouldn't recommend it and would choose another hotel next time I'm in Oldenburg. My room was spacious, clean, and modern, with a large double bed, wardrobe, TV, armchair, and small coffee table. The free Wi-Fi and big television were nice. Check-in was easy with the key safe, and the staff were helpful and friendly when I reached out. Noise was a problem: street sounds and the bakery downstairs getting its delivery at 4:50 a.m. meant my night was over. The room's heating was also a major downside. There's no regular heating, just a ceiling fan that switches between hot and cold air. And nobody came to clean all week, even though I left the "Please clean your room" sign on the handle for three days in a row. I'd asked for breakfast when booking, but it was forgotten and I never got a breakfast card.

The room was nicely furnished, the bathroom suited me, and the air conditioning worked well enough that I didn't need to open the windows in summer. Still, I'm not sure I'd return. I put the "Do not disturb" sign on the door and housekeeping came in and tidied the room anyway. I've traveled for work every week for 5 1/2 years and never had that happen at another hotel. People have reasons for putting that sign up. The bed was too hard for me, and the pillows were a letdown, as others have mentioned. I skipped breakfast. The guesthouse sits at an intersection, so it can get loud when someone decides to blast music while waiting at a red light. It's a shame, because my first impression was really good.

The room facing the courtyard also sits right by the street. Still, it's a good place for an overnight stay, with clean rooms, great service, and air conditioning.

We had a lovely stay and would definitely come back. The rooms were spotless and the beds comfortable, with thoughtful extras like water, feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. Breakfast was good too. In the morning, the service team were so friendly and welcoming, and great with the kids. I've never had a hotel room this clean. Thanks for a wonderful stay! 🫶
