Ganter Hotel & Restaurant Mohren

Restaurant Mohren really is in a class of its own. The food was spot on, and the staff knew the menu in detail and gave great suggestions for dishes and wine. I'd recommend making a reservation. The hotel is excellent too, with beautiful rooms, lovely furniture, a comfortable bed and thoughtful extras like bottled water, a very quiet fan and a sewing kit. Breakfast had a big choice of bread, cereal, cheese, cold cuts and fresh fruit. Guests can use the large parking lot next door, and the hotel also has a spa with massages and other beauty treatments. Its location on Reichenau is convenient, with everything just a few minutes away. Having the hotel, spa and restaurant together makes for a perfect package.

The restaurant serves good food, though it's a little expensive, and there are a few other restaurants nearby. We skipped breakfast for the same reason, but the nearby bakery, Inselbäckerei Peter, has great things to eat. Our room was nice and the staff friendly and helpful. The island is very quiet and lovely to walk around. Konstanz is worth a visit too, about 15 minutes away by car, or you can get there by boat or bicycle.

We're planning to have our wedding here this year, so I can only speak to the service so far, and it's been very good. We also attended a wine and menu tasting. The food was prepared extremely well, and the staff were very competent. The restaurant feels cozy and comfortable, with nice decor. The manager we met speaks English and German, has a calm manner and is experienced. I'd definitely recommend the hotel and restaurant.

The restaurant is good, so if you're on reichenau island it's a nice place to eat. The furniture in the room was OK, but the shower is tiny and useless if you're taller than 1.85 meters. You have to crouch, which doesn't really work. I stayed at Ganter Hotel & Restaurant Mohren 21-22 June 2022, and the basic thing I need from a hotel, a good night's sleep, just wasn't possible. At the start of summer the room was 28-30 degrees Celcius (82-86 Fahrenheit). There was no airconditioning and no real ventilation. I complained at reception and got a fan, which I propped in front of the window using stacked tables, but it didn't help. I can't imagine how it is when summer is fully here. If you need a cool room to sleep or relax in during the day, don't stay here. Even in winter, with the heating on, there's no room ventilation, which seems terrible for your health. The staff didn't seem to care that I couldn't sleep, just about the high room price. I stay in hotels over 150 nights a year and would avoid this one, especially in summer. The restaurant being good doesn't change the fact that I couldn't sleep, and you can eat there without staying at the hotel. In reply to the hotel: lots of hotels don't have air conditioning, but they keep rooms cool in other ways, like cooler night temperatures or good insulation. A room at 30 degrees Celcius isn't acceptable. The hotel should mention how hot its rooms get in summer. Older buildings can have ventilation or aircon too. If a hotel can't provide a night's sleep, it gets one star from me. I'm not trying to portray the hotel badly, just describing a terrible experience. At checkout I said I had zero sleep and that they shouldn't sell rooms like that. The only answer I got was “hmmmm”. Regards Chris Wiersma CTB.Global
