For a small hotel, the meals were excellent. The soup was delicious, and there was a good choice of food. My wife is vegetarian, and they made her a separate stuffed courgette with pine nut and cheese topping, which we appreciated, as many similar hotels don’t. Breakfast could have used a toaster, though the breads were lovely, especially the toasted seeded rolls. They let you take one for lunch with a filling for 1:50 euro. That helped a lot with my wife’s diabetes and keeping to meal times while abroad. We were here with a Just Go coach trip. The staff were friendly and helpful, and they provide free Tourist train tickets for local trains. The rooms are basic but clean and functional. My advice is to request a room at the back. We had room 211 and were lucky, but many in our group weren’t and were kept awake by goods trains running all night. That may suit a train fanatic, but it wasn’t for us.

The owner, Leonard Pinger, runs the hotel very efficiently and was helpful with local walking suggestions, even giving us maps. The friendly staff all spoke good English, which we especially appreciated given my lack of German. My wife needs a gluten free diet, and the hotel catered for her well. The rooms are comfortable, though it’s worth asking for one away from the railway station. We’ve been lucky on both stays, but other guests told us it was rather noisy on that side, though not unduly so. This was our second visit to Hotel Pinger, and we enjoyed our first stay too. We hope to walk the whole Rhine Valley someday, and wouldn’t hesitate to use the hotel as a base, taking advantage of the comprehensive railway system to reach each section.

Remagen is a charming little town, and the hotel is conveniently placed across from the railway station, with the riverfront promenade only a 10 minute walk away. We had a very nice stay in early April 2014. Our simply furnished room was very clean and comfortable, and the shower room was clean, functional, and had bright lighting, which is often lacking in hotel bathrooms. There was plenty for breakfast, including cereal, cold meats, cheese, fresh bread, and delicious croissants. Dinner was a good, hearty home-cooking buffet where you helped yourself. The Pinger family and all the staff were pleasant and extremely helpful.

The staff were polite, friendly, and very helpful, and I’d happily stay here again. Accommodation was more than adequate, clean, comfortable, and functional. The food was good and plentiful, though dinner had a rather limited choice. It was good quality and, for a small hotel, about what I could reasonably expect. I didn’t mind the limited options, though fussier guests might. Breakfast was the same every day, and I would have liked more variety. Sausages and fried eggs would have been welcome instead of the daily scrambled and hard-boiled eggs, though there was plenty to eat. The salt and pepper dispensers looked like a clever, efficient idea, but didn’t work very well.

The location made it easy to get around, with the station close by, and the river was handy for walks, cafes, and the Tower peace museum, which is well worth a visit. We booked the Pinger Hotel through Rail discoveries on an all inclusive tariff, and it was brilliant value for money. The meals were excellent and the room first class, though it had no tea or coffee facilities. Our room faced the front near the station, so we couldn’t leave the windows open at night in the very warm weather. The air con was next to useless, more like a pollen filter. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
