Alemannenhof Engel

The evening meal was nicely cooked, though it would have been better to have a few choices instead of one set menu. The room was adequate, the bed was very comfortable for me, and the shower had lots of hot water. The hotel is pleasant, if a little dated. Staff and owner were friendly and helpful, but communication could be tricky if you spoke little German, as they didn't speak much English. The food was okay, and overall it was a pleasant stay.

Once we'd settled in, the staff were brilliant, and the food was really good. Getting there was a bit chaotic: an older gentleman came to the bus and began taking our cases to the wrong place, so we had to go back for our keys and then collect them. The room was basic, but the bed was comfortable and the shower fantastic. I'd recommend it, as long as you're not expecting five-star.

The food was awful. Breakfast was just bread, ham, cheese and similar things, and the Christmas Eve dinner was a heap of mashed potato with rock-hard boiled ham from a cheap cut and a blob of very vinegary sauerkraut. It was a disgraceful effort. The place is very outdated and needs a full renovation, especially the rooms and bathrooms, which look like they're from the 70s, with old coloured shower and toilet fixtures.

The restaurant menu called the tortellini “hausgemachte,” but it wasn't homemade. What a disappointment.
