The rooms were clean and tidy, and the price was okay, but the beds were awful. They creaked loudly with every movement and kept waking us up. With two people in a bed, one won’t sleep and the other will keep getting woken up. There were only two toilets and one shower for five double rooms, so only one shower in all. The people were nice, but the place feels outdated for five rooms. If I stay again and things are better, I’ll give it more stars.

The toilets and showers were clean and well kept, with disinfectant available on every floor. We could safely store our bicycles in a garage. The only small drawback was the creaky floorboards by the sink in our room, but it’s an old building, so that can be hard to avoid. For a very reasonable price, you get fantastic accommodation. Our room was a good size and had a sink and small TV, plus a microwave and fridge. They’d even chilled some snacks and sweets for us :) Plan dinner ahead: there aren’t many restaurants in the Schaumburg area, so you may want to eat out or, as our hostess suggested, order delivery. This is a hidden gem for nature lovers, with a great location and stunning scenery. Pension Roseneck also suits cyclists and hikers, but be warned that Schaumburg village is on a very steep hillside. Getting there is challenging without an electric vehicle. With the cobblestones, it’s best to push your bike. The trip is definitely worth it!

The value for money is unbeatable, and we’d love to come back. We felt very comfortable at this beautifully situated guesthouse, with a wonderful view over the surrounding countryside and up to the castle.
