Schaumburger Ritter Hotel & Restaurant

The food is usually the highlight of our Valentine's dinner at Schaumburger Ritter, and this time was no different for most of the menu. The cream soup, venison leg, and apple dessert were divine, though the truffled carpaccio fell short of what we expected. We chose the four-course menu. We've been coming here for Valentine's Day for years, sometimes with friends and sometimes just the two of us. Yesterday, the table was as lovingly set as ever, and the service was impeccable. The refined atmosphere feels just like the Ritter, and the fresh, delicious food is prepared to a standard that's rare in the Schaumburg region. The staff are always friendly and attentive, and the value for money is spot on. It's always a pleasure to dine here. We'll be back, of course.

That historic, romantic setting made a lovely finishing touch to our evening at Schaumburger Ritter. We had a wonderful Valentine's Day menu, with every course beautifully presented and expertly prepared, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. We like the relaxed pace here, it gives you time to enjoy the meal. The cuisine is outstanding, the service is perfect, and the atmosphere fits the experience. Schaumburger Ritter is our first choice in Schaumburg when we're after a culinary treat.

At least the service was good, and the raspberry sorbet was excellent. But the rest of the food was a disappointment. The goose was tough and dry for all six of us at our St. Martin's Day dinner, and the red cabbage had far too much cinnamon. The dumplings were okay. My starter, the goose praline with savoy cabbage and salsify, looked nice, but the three pieces of salsify weren't cooked evenly. Two were nearly raw and so hard I couldn't cut them with a knife. The menu listed the set meal at €57 with a €10 discount underneath, valid through November 16th. Our bill came to €450 including drinks, and we were told the discount didn't apply. Since the menu is also online, that feels like misleading advertising. For that price, I expected much better quality. The food disappointed us and the value for money was poor. The good service is why I can only give two stars overall.
