The service was awful. When I called reception, I was told first that nobody would drive back another 30 minutes, then, on a second call, that we’d arrived too late for anything to be done. The on-site team also shouted insults at me after I refused to pay the cleaning fee. There was no warning about the complete beach closure, and the Wi-Fi didn’t work. The bedroom doorknob was broken, with other doors already very wobbly. The state of the place was a mess too. A full diaper was in the kitchen bin, and both the fridge and the house smelled. The floor was crumbly, pet hair had collected in corners, and dust covered the fireplace, extractor hood, windowsills, and shelves. The shower was moldy. There were live and dead flies in the bed, cupboards, and dishes, plus black spots or mold in the fold-out sofa mattress seam. The kitchen cupboards were smeared, utensils hadn’t been washed properly, the toilets had feces on them, cupboards had cobwebs, and the tables were sticky.

The house itself is charming and furnished with care, but the cleaning was so poor that we ended up doing it all ourselves, drains included. The sinks were blocked and the shower head had mold on it. We also found socks and toilet paper under the sink, empty bag sliders in the nightstand, and pet hair all over. With all that, it just doesn’t deserve five stars.

The quiet setting was lovely, and the beach is easy to get to. There are lots of dogs around, with a small dog beach, and I wasn’t sure whether I’d misunderstood the sign, but dogs seemed allowed on a leash along the promenade and other beaches despite the no-dogs sign. Keep in mind that some properties aren’t fenced, and dogs have to stay leashed in the residential parks. After the coronavirus pandemic the beach promenade was nearly deserted, and many shops and restaurants listed on Google were closed. There’s enough crockery and cutlery, and the rooms are a decent size, though the wardrobes in the double rooms are tiny. The children’s room has one large hanging wardrobe. The blinds make the rooms dark, but rattle annoyingly at night if the window is open and it’s windy. There are no fly screens. The house stays warm even without the heating, but the tap water kept switching between hot and cold. The oven’s bottom heat doesn’t work, some furniture inside and out is worn or broken, and the grill is partly broken. Novasol already knew about major defects like broken chairs and a broken patio, but they still hadn’t fixed them. Everyone leaves rubbish, which then ends up in the shed and storage room. I spent the first day of my holiday cleaning again, and an €85 final cleaning fee is too much for that. The internet is awful. The information desk gives you a misspelled password, though the right one is in the house. The campsite Wi-Fi is free and works really well on the terrace, in the kitchen, and in the bedroom. Phone calls sometimes work, or even on the beach. On the first day, a village shop order form is left at the door so you can get rolls delivered between 6 and 7 a.m. It was such a nice holiday, but I won’t book with Novasol again.
