The beds and room were clean, and the kitchen was spacious. Still, there weren’t enough toilets for the number of rooms, and the shower area needs renovating. The toilets and showers were a bit dirty. If you’ve stayed in lots of hostels, this one may disappoint. After noon, there’s no one around, so you have to call and follow the instructions to get your key. I’d only stay if there were no other options. €28 for one night in this kind of hostel feels far too expensive to me.

We arrived and nobody seemed to know about our booking. The service woman was drunk, and the only water coming out was cold. The interior was dirty and the whole house smelled of mold. I was absolutely disgusted. I absolutely do not recommend staying here. The health department should close this place immediately, and it should be taken off all booking platforms.

The location felt empty and creepy when I walked there alone in the evening as a young woman. You have to go through a parking lot, and there’s nothing nearby, no supermarkets, cafes or bars. In daylight it seems less bad, and it’s close to the S-bahn, about 15 minutes from Warnemünde and the beach. I paid more than €30 for a bed in a shared room, which is already a lot, but the condition of this hostel makes that unbelievable. The room was cold and dim. The carpet and furniture had stains I couldn’t identify, and cigarette smoke smell hung around the hostel. The sheets didn’t smell clean or freshly washed. Everything was very old, but the real issue was that it looked like nothing had been cleaned in a very long time. Hygiene was zero. The shower area was awful. There was mold everywhere, broken tiles that could hurt your feet, and a clogged drain with dirty, soapy foam and hair left from previous guests. The shower stalls had wet, soapy curtains that seemed never to have been washed. There were no towels or shower supplies, and I was afraid I’d catch something. The toilet was covered in urine. The kitchen was dirty and smelly, with bugs. One fridge didn’t work; the other was sticky and filthy, with old moldy food inside that stank. The dishes and stove were dirty and everything was oily, so it didn’t feel safe to cook or eat there. I booked somewhere else spontaneously for my second night in Rostock. For €4 more I had a lovely clean room to myself at Rostock Übernachtung Hostel. It was such a relief after Backpackers Inn and saved my trip. Don’t book this run-down, gross, cold hostel. I can’t believe it’s still licensed.

The staff were nice, but I left after 30 minutes because the place was filthy and nothing seemed in good condition. It smelled like a wet dog and had a caravan park feel, plus it seemed a bit sketchy. There was a homeless girl staying in my room with her dog, and I feel for her, but the dog shouldn’t have been in the rooms. It added to the overall filth. They clearly don’t care. This felt more like a druggie hangout than a hostel for travelers. I’d honestly suggest sleeping on a park bench. They shouldn’t be listed on booking.com.

We arrived quite late, and after calling several times we managed to reach staff. They told us the key was in the room door, so at least we could get in. But the room was horrible: the sheets hadn’t been washed, there were glass shards on the carpet, and the carpet smelled awful. The windows were shut, which made it even worse. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
