Vienna House Easy by Wyndham Rostock

Check-in and breakfast are at the "Vienna Sun" across the street. The hotel is centrally placed by the market square and main shopping street, but the building is very old and not wheelchair accessible. Most of the interior is worn and uncomfortable. On my first stay, room 401 was so filthy I backed out as soon as I entered. I was moved to room 105 at the front on the first floor, where the streetcar was very loud. It was a double room with just one desk chair, and the switches barely lit the room, with one lamp by the bed and another in the corner. The bathroom had been remodeled, but the wall blocked the window from opening. I asked for a room at the back. Room 211 was quiet, apart from rude neighbors, but its single bed was too small and the mattress was four inches narrower still. The remote slipped into the gap and vanished under the bed. Sitting on the bed was uncomfortable anyway. If you like "No sleep 'til Hammersmith," this is your place.

The staff were helpful and nice, and on our last day they gave us generous lunch bags since we had to leave before breakfast. The rooms were nice, as expected. Because of work being done, breakfast was at a nearby hotel. The location puts you right among the things worth seeing in Rostock, with trams and buses nearby going everywhere.

The dinner at the hotel across the street was a surprise, because the menu was already set and we had no choice. We felt it was the cheapest option, just offered to us. We received a hotel voucher as a wedding present, but were disappointed to be given the smallest room, without a minibar or any extra equipment. It felt like everything included in the voucher was the hotel's worst accommodation. Offering vouchers and then treating guests like unwanted last-minute arrivals isn't fair. Had we known, we'd have picked another hotel.

They knew I'd had five hip and leg operations and could hardly manage four flights of stairs, but when I came back that evening the elevator wasn't working and they made me walk up to the fourth floor. Earlier, I'd checked in and left my luggage while they got the room ready. The TV and air conditioning didn't work, and there was nobody at reception that night to complain to. They offered no alternative.
