Landhaus Bergspatz

I’ve stayed here twice. It’s a small, slightly old-fashioned place with plenty of charm and a really good price. I’m only here overnight, then out exploring all day, so I don’t need luxury. It feels authentic and suits me just fine.

The rooms were roomy, spotless, and comfortable, with balconies looking out over the Alps. The bathrooms are a little dated, but everything was clean and there was nothing to complain about. This is a quiet, family-run hotel on the edge of Rottach, with attentive staff and reasonable prices. I’d gladly recommend it for a short stay by Lake Tegernsee.

The mold on the shower curtain was completely unacceptable. You can only shower in the bathtub, and while the room itself was okay, that really bothered me. We knew there was no breakfast, but a kettle with tea or instant coffee in the room or somewhere in the hotel, and a shared fridge, would have been easy additions. The balcony geraniums looked dried out, though it had been a hot summer. The country house has a 1970s feel, and the location is fairly central, quiet, and in an upscale residential area. Fine for a night or two, but I wouldn’t choose it for a longer stay.

Breakfast places and a grocery store are easy to get to. We spent five days at Bergspatz and were very happy with our stay. The owner was warm, helpful, and accommodating. We’d definitely come back.
