Plenkhof

A two-minute walk takes you to the bus stop, and the accommodation itself is very quiet, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. The swimming pond and lovely sauna and wellness area made the stay feel complete. The Plenkhof is family-run and has a really nice atmosphere. Mrs. Thullner is at the heart of it, always friendly and helpful, with good ideas for things to do.

Our child felt right at home, and we’d happily come back. The place was clean, well equipped, and decorated with care. A very pleasant stay.

The Chiemgau Card was useful for free bus and train rides between Ruhpolding, Siegsdorf, and Traunstein, as well as things like the cable car to Hochfelln and the Mammoth Museum. Ruhpolding is small and charming, and the bus stop is about five minutes away on foot. From the farm we had a beautiful view, and it was lovely watching the cows, horse, and donkey, apparently friends, head up to the meadows each morning. My husband and I stayed for a week. Our room was cozy and clean, with excellent beds. He especially liked the comfortable bedding. We’d arranged it in advance, and fresh rolls were left at our door each morning. The hostess was very friendly without being intrusive. We climbed the local mountain, Rauschberg, up to the summit cross at about 1620 meters. The weather let us down a bit, but we’re definitely planning another stay at the lovely Plenkhof. Thank you! 😉

The apartment itself was very clean and warmly furnished. Everything worked, the lighting was pleasant, and the pool water was good. During the day the pool was refreshing, more than 2 meters deep, and big enough for a few dives and a swim. Dragonflies and barn swallows were around, with a beautiful view of the local mountain. We also enjoyed walking to the viewing bench and watching the day unfold, and had good experiences with the other guests. But the online picture of wellness and quiet on a farm didn’t match our stay. In the farmhouse apartment, the slurry tractor could wake you and, depending on the weather, spread slurry all day as it drove past. When it stopped, the brush cutter or mower made the noise. The country road is some distance away, but motorcycles can still be clearly heard, which was annoying in the evening and at night. The pool looked illuminated online, but at night it had only a few solar bulbs. The underwater lights were off, and it was so dark we didn’t want to swim. It also seemed to belong to the farm’s children, who filled it with toys and swimwear and gave vacation guests strange looks. No sauna or massage was offered. The windows and balcony have seen better days. The shutters wouldn’t close, so in summer the bedroom was bright as day at sunrise and sleeping in wasn’t possible. There were no fly screens either, so airing the apartment let all sorts of insects inside. The farmhouse itself has no valley view because it’s overgrown. The cows are chained in the barn most of the time, which feels really outdated. The hospitality felt effortful, but the farmer himself was lacking. It gave us the feeling that they depend on tourist money but struggle to meet guests’ expectations.
