Domaine Leidinger

Breakfast was a real highlight, with made-to-order cooked food, a buffet, good coffee, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. There isn't a hotel restaurant, but that worked out fine with so many places nearby. I had asked for a room with a bath and got one; I just hadn't realized there wouldn't also be a separate shower. I managed OK, and the room itself was lovely.

Breakfast was good, but I thought the price was high for what the hotel offers. The rooms especially need a makeover and feel due for an update. It seemed like a mid-range hotel to me.

The room was still extremely hot when we got back from town several hours after checking in. At around 7:00 pm, the receptionist gave us extra cards for the slot and said the A/C was working but would take a few hours to cool the room. When we returned, we were told there was a problem and someone had tried to fix it, but it still wasn't working. On top of that, the same receptionist told my wife to leave the reception area and go outside because my daughter's voice was too loud for him. The booking rating is very high, but in my humble opinion this was by far the worst hotel I've stayed at in Europe over the last 10 years. If you stay here, bring an extra fan and leave your children at home.

The location and tasty breakfast are still good, and I've stayed at Leidinger several times. My latest visit, though, was a noticeable drop in service compared with the pleasant stays before it. Less frequent room cleaning is understandable, but several other things made this stay worse. The Wi-Fi only worked in half the room, so clients kept disconnecting, and it was hard to control the temperature with a modern window set in front of an older one. I went to the courtyard to work because of the Wi-Fi trouble, but nobody was serving there in the evening. I got myself a drink and was curtly told that wasn't allowed and that I had to order from the bar. I understand the rule, but it should be posted, and someone sitting there for an hour should be offered a drink. Being ignored and then yelled at wasn't OK. Years ago, on my first visit, pleasant staff served me a lovely Erdinger. The hotel now serves "Bitt", which I think is a step down. That first experience was so good that I returned several times. After checkout, the hotel said I owed more money because they hadn't charged for some breakfasts. I'd asked twice whether the bill was correct. They don't offer an online payment form and wanted me to email my credit card number or call, which was a big annoyance while I was traveling internationally. Also, the juice machine worked on only two of the four days I was there.
