With its occasional creaky floorboards, this lovely guesthouse in an 18th-century house has plenty of character. I gladly choose it over a hotel that only seems luxurious. It's very clean and the people are friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. I'll definitely return.

We paid €68 per person for two nights over the weekend, breakfast included, which felt like a reasonable price. Breakfast was delicious, and the rooms were very clean. The decor is a little old-fashioned, but it fits the guesthouse and its surroundings. It's a lovely little place run by a very friendly couple.

The breakfast buffet kept getting topped up, with plenty to choose from: rolls and breads, cheeses, cold cuts, jams, honey, fruit, muesli, yogurt, and quark. The eggs were perfectly cooked, and there was excellent coffee and juice too. The guesthouse is in a quiet location, and the service is very friendly and attentive.

There's parking, plus a convenience store, a savings bank, and two restaurants in the village. The guesthouse is on the steepest street in the entire Harz Mountains. At first it looks rather dated, though the small, comfortable rooms have been nicely renovated with fresh wallpaper and more. During the coronavirus pandemic, breakfast wasn't served as a buffet; instead, rolls, cold cuts, cheese, jam, eggs, and coffee or tea were brought to the table.
