Villa Katharina - Romantikappartements mit Meerblick

We spent New Year's Eve here as a couple. The balcony view was really lovely, even in winter, but we had several problems. The internet was unusable, and the spa cards came only after we asked for them at the property, too late for us to print them. The place looks stylish and clearly had thought put into its decor, yet we found it uncomfortable. The thin foam mattresses had us waking early with back pain. There is a dishwasher, but with only four knives, forks, and spoons, and similarly few dishes, we couldn't use it. Communication was by email throughout.

The location and view are definite highlights. The apartment has an unusual, attractive look, though it feels a little dated and is quite sparsely equipped. The conservatory becomes very hot, with no blinds or anything like them, and the kitchen had just two pans, both broken. We stayed for a week. Our towels weren't changed, despite the required linen package costing €15 net per person. Still, the place was okay for a week.

The beach promenade is an easy walk from Villa Katharina, which is well placed and has views of the Baltic Sea. The rooms have a rustic feel, and the kitchenette had what we needed. The cleaning was a letdown. The stairwell and hallways were dirty, and neither they nor the front door were cleaned during our stay. In the living and dining room, the carpet was another drawback. An easy-care floor would be better, which is why I give it only three stars.

From the balcony the view is phenomenal, and Alt Sassnitz is a fantastic base. Everything is easy to reach on foot.
