The setting is the highlight, tucked below beautiful mountains and rolling pastureland in the middle of Bavaria. It's a lovely, quiet hotel, and the people are super friendly. The modern rooms were nice, though without a fridge or microwave there's nowhere to chill drinks or warm one up at night. Water wasn't provided every day either. Reception is open only from 0800-1700, so checking out early or arriving late can be difficult. The restaurant is fine, with a decent menu for a short stay. Breakfast was the same limited selection each day, though, and with so little variety, the 10.00 euro daily charge is hard to justify. I enjoyed the evening beer garden.

The staff are kind and helpful, and the rooms and bathroom are spacious and clean. I liked having no carpet for hygiene, plus the shower cabin was spotless, the windows had insect screens, and everything felt well built. The chairs are comfortable, and the bed edge is cut off so it's less painful if you bump into it. There was even a shoe spoon. We got a bottle of mineral water on the first day. The fridge is small and doesn't cool much. Breakfast has plenty of options, but no fresh croissants, and I didn't like the coffee. We used the sauna too, though there weren't any chairs or drinks there.

I came by train to Saulgrub and really enjoyed the 20 minute walk to the hotel with just my backpack. The setting is amazing, so quiet, pretty, and green, and the receptionist greeted me very warmly.

We'd made a booking mistake, which wasn't the hotel's fault, and were given a room that wasn't accessible. Even though the hotel was full and I was quite upset, they managed to find us a suitable room. Everyone was genuinely friendly and helpful. I'd definitely recommend this hotel to people.
