A charming hotel in a picturesque little village. The staff are really friendly, and although the rooms are a bit old-fashioned, that suits the atmosphere. Dinner was good too. I’d recommend it for a getaway in the German countryside.

My dad and I stayed here two weeks ago because we wanted somewhere more traditionally German. It was beautiful, with great rooms, service, and food. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone after a traditional German place to stay.

People get so used to prefab houses, Ikea furniture, and all the modern stuff that they can’t appreciate the authenticity and beauty of a place like this. Then you read complaints that the hotel is old, the wireless is slow, or the television has reception trouble. How sad. If you can’t manage without your city routine, why come here? Malkasten is old, of course, like all the houses in Schwalenberg. Old and beautiful. The hotel is very well kept and tastefully renovated. The rooms are clean, spacious, and tidy, and the staff are friendly and helpful. If you can’t appreciate that, go to the Holiday Inn at the station.

Stopped in for lunch and wow, what a place. Really good food, great beer, clean and quiet. Just what I wanted. There wasn’t an English menu, but the staff and I managed to muddle through, and I’m glad we did.
