Schlosshotel Schkopau

We made the trip with our family today, really looking forward to the visit, and found the doors locked because of an alleged “technical issue." Things like that can happen, particularly in historic buildings in winter, but at this price we should at least have been told ahead of time. Instead, we went all that way for nothing. Now I have to sort out getting my money back myself, too. Very disappointing and badly handled. Thanks for nothing. First visit, and last.

In May 2024, I visited this Hotel. The location was very nice and the room was large and pleasant. The Restaurant wasn't somewhere I'd go back to, but the service was the biggest disappointment. I left my jacket behind, and the Hotel found it. They asked Eur 17,- to send it, which I paid, but the jacket never arrived. Maybe it got stuck with the post company, I thought, so I emailed the Hotel several times. No reply at all. I'm never going back. If you're a new guest, don't forget your clothes.

More than 10 years later, this still stands out as one of the best stays from our travels. We were there for a wedding, and it was simply incredible! It's a beautiful castle in a peaceful, lovely town. The rooms were lovely too, and the grounds were tidy, calm, and welcoming. Everyone on staff was friendly and professional. I'd happily return if I get the chance.

Breakfast was excellent, while the bar area was just average. The castle itself is charming, carefully renovated and kept in style, with nice attention to detail. The town and nearby area aren't anything special, though the castle is. You can visit the tower by asking reception for the key. Staff communication can be hard since their English isn't very good.
