The evening in the dark restaurant was the highlight of our weekend. With no phones, technology, or light, we spent the meal touching, tasting, listening, and laughing. It was a lot of fun, the food was delicious, and we met some lovely people. Our waitress was friendly and took time to answer all our questions, and the rest of the staff were nice too. The hotel looks rather plain from outside, but inside it’s clean and renovated. The custom furniture and thoughtful details suit the Thuringian Forest and give the place charm. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was well laid out, especially the large shower. Breakfast was small but enough, and asking for an extra bowl of tomatoes was no trouble. A really memorable stay.

Volker made the evening unforgettable with his wit and fascinating stories, along with excellent service. The three-course meal at the "Fuchsbau" in Schmiedefeld was delicious, and the three hours flew by. Thanks so much, we’ll be back!

The rooms were modern and clean, and the dark restaurant was a great experience. The blind waiter was hilarious. The owner also gave us a friendly welcome. But the woman at reception was incredibly rude. A polite question was met with a sharp response. What a shame for the hotel, it could have been so great.

We had a great base for our motorcycle holiday at Hotel "Grüner Baum". The location was quiet, with lovely hiking trails and plenty of motorcycle routes nearby, and the hotel’s own planned routes are well worth trying. We felt comfortable and welcome throughout. The owner, a keen motorcyclist, greeted me warmly and chatted with us in the evening, sharing route recommendations. Our bikes fit in the spacious garage, which had helmet and jacket racks plus supplies for cleaning helmet visors. The renovated rooms were very clean, dinner and breakfast were delicious and high quality, and the staff were friendly and attentive. It’s also a good base for hiking.
