Schäferkate Sierksdorf

Apartment A1 is cozy, nicely laid out over two floors, and in a quiet spot about a 10-minute walk from the beach. There are parking spaces, though they’re very small, and a trailer permanently takes up one of them. The apartment needs a proper cleaning. The kitchen floor and stair railing felt sticky, as did the grimy cords on the bedside lamps. The bedroom only had portable power strips under the bed. The shower is tiny, and getting in is really only practical for someone very slim. Wi-Fi and satellite TV reception were both a disaster. Streaming or watching TV without constant interruptions was virtually impossible. Then at 8:30 on Sunday morning, glass recycling was loudly sorted and disposed of right outside our terrace, so sleeping in wasn’t an option. It’s a shame, because it wouldn’t take much to bring the apartment up to a decent standard. There doesn’t seem to be any interest in doing that.

The terrace is a nice little spot, and having parking right outside the apartment was handy. The location is quiet and close to the beach, and my first impression was good. Looking closer, though, the workmanship was sloppy, especially around the floors and baseboards. The bathroom is tiny, and the shower curtain doesn’t reach the floor, so water ends up all over the bathroom. The lighting inside is dim, and cleaning had been missed: a pair of underwear from the previous guest was still in the closet. The linen package seemed quite expensive to me. It was okay overall, but we’d rather stay somewhere else next time.

The small apartment was clean, nicely furnished, and just right for two. We did have a terrace, though sitting there in the parking lot didn’t feel very comfortable. It’s a good place if you want peace and quiet, but it was a little too quiet for us. We didn’t care for the town or the beach, so we drove to different places each day. We were meant to collect the key in Scharbeutz and got a rather arrogant welcome there.

We loved how easy it was to get to the fantastic sandy beach on the short walking paths, and it wasn’t too crowded in this part. The Schäferkate is in the quietest, prettiest part of Sierksdorf, away from traffic and the high-rise buildings and complexes. It felt like a real hidden gem for unwinding. The communal garden is large, beautifully landscaped, and well kept, with tucked-away places to sit or lounge, plus a barbecue area. Our apartment was spotless, beautifully furnished, and everything was brand new. The landlord, caretaker, and neighbors were all friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!
