Hanse Hotel Soest

The room stayed cold even with the heater on. It's far from the center, and taxis come from there when you call one. There are no buses or grocery shops nearby.

The receptionist first said breakfast was free, then waited until we'd eaten a breakfast that was horrible and cold before demanding an extra €30 per room. We had three rooms, so they wanted another €90. When we asked them to call the receptionist who had offered it for free, they refused. There was hair from the previous guest on the bed, and the shower towels were filthy. The owner wasn't pleasant either. They are scammers, and I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone!!!

The room was spacious, carpeted, and very clean, with a comfortable bed, nice lighting, a fridge, and packets of haribos waiting for us :-) . There was a separate entrance area with cupboards, and the wet room was clean and roomy too. Breakfast was decent, and checkout went smoothly. The building seemed solidly built and sits in a quiet part of the village, not far from the motorway, with free parking. Check-in around 9 p.m. was especially helpful: the hotel restaurant was supposed to stop taking orders at 9, but the receptionist told them we were arriving and got them to wait. At the restaurant, the manager took time to explain the menu, the food was tasty, the local beer was brilliant, and the service was superb. The hotel also has arrangements with local activities like a gym, swimming pool, and golf course. We hadn't realized that and had to leave early, but hope to return for a few days next time. I wholeheartedly recommend the Hanse and its staff!

The room was basic but clean, and the staff came across as unhelpful and offhand. I wasn't sure about the quality of the dining room food, served in a very brightly lit bar and restaurant. During breakfast, I heard the owner or manager loudly telling off staff. There's work to do before this reaches three-star-plus quality.
