Englmar Chalets by ALPS Resorts

There’s plenty nearby for families to do, and the fresh bread rolls delivered each morning were a treat. The private sauna and whirlpool were a great finishing touch. The houses were spotless and set in a beautiful location, and we got a lovely, friendly welcome. Finding an open restaurant in town was a bit tricky at the beginning of December, though that wasn’t the owners’ fault. The local Edeka supermarket has good takeaway food. We’d love to return!

We stayed in October and found lots of great places to visit close by. The house was spacious and clean, with very good service on site and a remarkably well-equipped kitchen.

The host was friendly and helpful, and fresh rolls and pretzels from the local Edenhofer bakery could be delivered each morning. Guests also receive the aktivCARD Bayerischer Wald, which provides free entry to many attractions and excursion destinations. We stayed as a family with children in one of these holiday homes in Sankt Englmar. They were built about a year ago, so still quite new. The kids especially loved the wood-fired hot tub; firewood and kindling are supplied. The house was fully furnished, with three bedrooms, two shower rooms with toilets, a living and dining room with an open kitchen, and a sauna in the upstairs bathroom.

We all felt at home in the chalet, three generations plus our dog. Everything was new, modern, and clean. Communication with Benjamin was excellent, and he took care of everything. We made good use of the sauna and hot tub on our summer holiday, and the terrace felt very private because the chalet sits at the edge of the forest. A few practical things: the booking includes the ErlebnisPlus card, which gives free access to many attractions, a big plus. There’s a washing machine in the complex that handles two loads for €3, plus a dryer for €2; the chalet also has a clothes rack. Parking isn’t right by the chalets, so you have to carry luggage and groceries over. Our handcart came in handy. The edge-of-forest chalets cost a bit more. The sun doesn’t really reach this terrace, though that wasn’t a problem in summer.
