The staff were a pleasure, always courteous and finding ways to make our stay more comfortable. The sauna was very clean, with towels provided, and you could choose a steam sauna or a “normal” one. Afterwards, there were comfortable chairs indoors or outside where you could relax in the quiet of nature. We stayed in the tower room (Turmzimmer), with a fantastic view of the Bastion Bridge (Basteibrücke) from both the bed and bathroom. The room was welcoming and spotless, with comfortable beds, coffee machine and coffee pads, a kettle, tea, and a bathroom. There was even a personal note with information about the hotel and things to do. The location made it easy to explore without driving. It’s a 10-minute walk to the ferry across the river, with trails to the Bastei, Schwedenlöcher, Honigsteine, and more. The views are amazing. Breakfast can be eaten inside or outside with a lovely view. There was coffee, tea, juice, bread and rolls, cheese, and cold cuts. I’m vegan and often struggle to find breakfast, but there were tasty savory and sweet spreads, fresh fruit and vegetables, cornflakes, and soy or oat milk. I’m not sure if that was because I mentioned it in our booking notes. Dinner was incredible, too. We asked if a meal could be made vegan, and the chef immediately offered a list of possibilities, then made us a delicious homemade three-course vegan meal. I can’t recommend it enough!

The family-run hotel had such warm hospitality, and we really enjoyed dinner in the restaurant. We spent three nights in the house Gamrig, right beside the excellent pool, which was 26 c warm and wonderful after a hike. There was also a private outdoor terrace. A steep stairway leads down to the city, and the nearest shop is at least 20 minutes away, so I’d suggest shopping on the way. There’s a kitchen, and we borrowed the barbecue for a small fee. It’s a great base for exploring the area. The Basteibridge walk, including the small ferry over the bridge, and the Pravcicka Brana hike are must-do outings if you like hiking. We’d clearly come back!

The view is amazing. With luggage, though, taking a car is a better idea so you don’t have to walk so much.

Great views from the rooms, nice food, and an amazing staff member. The rooms are cozy, and getting there by road or train is easy.
