Hotel Stern

The duvets were so short I couldn't cover myself properly, even though I'm not tall, and the room was freezing overnight. After using the towels, they started falling apart, and they had a strong chemical smell, like they came from a cheap factory in china. The sheets were also filthy, with hair and stains everywhere. I've stayed in plenty of hotels, and this was one of the worst. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have no choice.

I've stayed here twice. Back in march 2023 I shared a two-bed room with a mate. It was fine for sleeping, and we had no real problems. There was no bathroom in the room, but it was cheaper, which mattered most then. This time I booked a single room with a bathroom. The same friendly receptionist was there, and he speaks English pretty well. The room was somewhat clean, but the window had been left open. Fresh air was nice, though in winter it meant a very cold night. The hotel seems to make occasional efforts to update things. This year, for instance, it had a new street sign. You can park on the street, and parking is free from 22-8. There's a Penny nearby and some good restaurants. It's an okay summer stop if you're driving for hours and just need a place to sleep.

The room was okay for the price, and I didn't see the bed bugs other people mentioned. But the bathroom was so dirty that I went to use one on another floor instead. The hotel is noisy, and guests in the next room were loud well into the night. Even our single night here left me regretting the stay. The receptionist also greeted us with some strange jokes.

The shower room and toilet were clean and modern, and the hotel is near the train station, a lovely park and a few nice places to eat. But the rooms are very worn, with carpet stains and lamps by the bed that were nearly broken. We also found one small bed bug in the morning. The owner blocks you from leaving comments on Booking. I'd only stay here if there were no other options and I needed a cheap night.
