The room is nice and clean, and the bed is comfortable. Still, we couldn’t sleep until 3 a.m. The Irish pub, listed on Google as closing at midnight, is actually a club, and the noise is incredibly high. Completely unacceptable.

We stayed in the Sterntaler apartment on the ground floor, on the right, from February 7th to 9th, 2025, for a short trip for my wife’s birthday. I can’t say whether the other apartments in the building are this noisy. I usually read reviews first, and I still can’t believe I forgot this time. It could have saved us two nights of horror. The room itself is lovely, tastefully furnished, spotlessly clean, and has what looks like a new bathroom. The landlord was extremely friendly, the price was excellent, and the location is very central. There’s also a €45 dog fee for just two nights, which is a good deal. But the Irish pub right next door ruins it. We’re “Westerland pros” and visit the island at least four times a year, so we know the town center is noisier than the outskirts. A DJ music venue next door is another thing entirely. Friday into Saturday was somewhat bearable with earplugs. Saturday into Sunday felt twice as loud. Even construction site Mickey Mouse ears wouldn’t have helped. The music finally stopped around 5 a.m., then the chairs and tables were shuffled around until 6 a.m. It was truly unbearable. The pub is mentioned on the website, but not that you’re basically sleeping, or trying to sleep, right in front of the DJ booth between the speakers. In my opinion, the room shouldn’t be rented out, and I’m amazed this is allowed. If you’re hoping to sleep at night, this is absolutely not the place. As landlords say, “There’s a sucker born every minute.” This time we were the suckers. What a shame! I absolutely can’t recommend it.

The owners are friendly, and the room is both attractive and practical, with a wardrobe and chest of drawers for all your clothes. The rain shower in the bathroom is great too. On the downside, the room isn’t cleaned regularly, and some TV channels are missing.

It’s a well-located house, a short walk from both the station and the beach. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the price is reasonable. I’d recommend it to most people, though it should be made clear at booking that two apartments can only be reached by a steep staircase. Our bathroom also wasn’t workable for someone using a walking aid, since the way to the toilet and shower was very narrow. The heating stopping at 10 p.m. was the biggest problem for me. We ended up huddled in the living room under our duvets for the rest of the evening. On holiday, you’d like to stay up a bit later. It was cold and windy outside, and the house was quite chilly when we got back. Such a shame.
