Holiday Resort TUI Blue, Sylt

We were searching for somewhere to stay with 3 adults, and the two bedroom apartments here worked really well. I’d suggest the small upgrade to a bay view room. The view from the window is just too beautiful to describe. The beach is incredible for walks, sunsets, and watching nature, and it’s an easy, short walk from the hotel. Since the hotel is in the south of the island, having a car was helpful. I suspect not many Americans visit Sylt, so this may be an unusual perspective.

The pool is nice and the view is great. I also had a very good massage with Kathy (I believe that was her name), who was definitely a skilled professional. Restaurant staff were very, very friendly, and the food was great, with nice options for everyone, though the kids’ buffet could be improved. Reception was less friendly. The location is nice. The rooms feel outdated and need fresh paint and a much better clean. The sheets were rough on the skin and had several holes, as did the towels. For the price, I expected proper bedding and nice towels. Maybe a new fabric softener would help. In these beach apartments, sand gets everywhere, so a vacuum cleaner would be useful. Our room only had a broom and bucket, and sweeping didn’t help much.

A really nice place to stay and enjoy the island. The apartments have all the essentials to make a stay comfortable, and they’ve thought of helpful little extras like shoe wee caps, vanity sets, sewing kits, and shoe shining product. Just keep in mind that checkout is at 10:00.

Getting here from Hamburg by myself with the children was straightforward: we took the train from Altona, about 3 hours, then a short bus ride from Westerland. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the stop, so no car needed. We’d definitely come again. It made a weekend with kids so easy and fun, and there were lots of other facilities we didn’t have time to try, including children’s activities, bike rental, surfing lessons, and spa. The children were very well catered for at meals. There was a low buffet they could see and choose from, small cutlery, bibs, bowls, plates, a children’s menu alongside the adult options, lots of cereal and fruit, cooked breakfast items, and highchairs and booster seats for different ages. Both kids loved the breakfast buffet. As lactose intolerants, we appreciated the alternative milk bar with soya milk, lactose free milk, and FOUR types of oat milk, plus 2 lactose free types of sundae on the restaurant’s ice cream menu. The food was brilliant. We had a type 1 apartment, with a sofabed for our older child and a travel baby bed in our bedroom for the toddler. They provided baby bedding, a changing mat, safety bars for our double bed, and the travel cot. A Babyphone was available too, though we didn’t need it. There were bollerwagens to move luggage around, and our toddler could ride along too. Staff were SO helpful and looked after us really well. The little one loved zooming around the grounds on a Bobby Car and playing at the playground. Our older child was into the giant outdoor chess set and swimming pool, which we all enjoyed. The kids’ pool was great. We didn’t get a chance to send the children upstairs to the lighthouse to play with a trained staff member, as they were too busy choosing and eating food. The hotel was really clean. We stayed 2 nights, and our room was cleaned twice on Saturday. We appreciated that after walking 15 mins to the beach with the kids. Absolutely amazing with children! Our two were 2.5 and 10 years old.
