I can hardly put into words how grateful and respectful I feel toward Gerrit and Elisa. They were the first German people I met, and I wish every good thing for their family and business. #standwithukraine I arrived in the spring of 2022, while traveling from Ukraine 🇺🇦 after Russia began its full-scale invasion. I had been promised somewhere to stay and a job, but while I was on the train I got a message saying nobody would meet me and that I should go to the police, who would take me to a refuge camp. I was frightened, shocked, and stressed, and arriving late in the evening left me unsure where to go. I searched online for a nearby hotel and messaged to ask if anyone could pick me up and whether there were discounts for Ukrainians. To my great surprise, they replied within minutes and offered a car to collect me and a free stay. The owner, Gerrit, was so kind. I must have looked scared and devastated, but Gerrit and Elisa made sure I was comfortable. They gave me one of the coziest, cleanest rooms, dinner 🥘, and a short note 🗒️ that will stay in my heart. I was also able to wash all my clothes and wear something fresh and clean the next day. I had to move out the following day, and everything worked out fine later on.
