Gasthof Hüsing

Inexpensive hotel, and breakfast was big.

The room was like a brown 70s time capsule, right down to the walls, ceiling, floor, bed, pictures, and bathroom fixtures. The mattress felt just as old. I sank into it and woke up with terrible back pain. The hotel itself was clean and pleasantly quiet, but that’s about where the positives end. Breakfast was pretty limited, which feels like the wrong place to cut corners, even for a budget hotel. Then the bill had the wrong year on it, so I couldn’t claim the stay as a business expense.

There are some good-sized balconies and the internet works well, but I’ve had much better places to stay for €47. The building really needs renovation. Rooms aren’t cleaned every day and the beds aren’t made. Staff try to help at breakfast, but there aren’t even cold drinks. One morning, nobody showed up and there was no breakfast at all.

I got lucky and found another hotel in Osnabrück, because there was nobody at this guesthouse when I arrived to check in for my two-night booking at 5:40 pm. The door had a note with a phone number, but nobody picked up for an hour and a half. The entrance sign said check-in was 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. After 7:00 pm, the phone rang once, someone answered, then hung up. Never again. This hotel should be closed. 🤬
