It was fine.

The friendly staff, good breakfast selection, and clean, tidy surroundings were real positives. Still, I was surprised to find a dermatologist and physiotherapy services at a country estate hotel. This isn't a conventional hotel: the building was a rehabilitation clinic and is now a senior living residence. There is a dining room rather than a restaurant, a vending machine instead of a hotel bar, and a therapy pool rather than a swimming pool. If you don't mind the former clinic setting, it may suit you. If you expect all the usual hotel amenities, it won't.

The evening buffet was mediocre, though inexpensive, and dinner felt more like a hostel meal. Breakfast leaned toward filter coffee and rye bread rather than cappuccino and baguette, but was excellent overall. The estate is spacious, comfortable, and beautifully located, with large rooms, a lovely garden, quiet surroundings, and remarkably friendly service. I hadn't expected it to be connected to a retirement home, which gives the place a distinctive atmosphere. I was there with a small child. The child enjoyed it, and I think the other guests were happy to have us, though we certainly stood out.

We brought our dog and felt very welcome. There's loads of space, and people are dog-friendly, so it's a great choice for dog owners. The countryside is the big draw: you can take long walks toward the forest and lake, swim with trees all around you, and get into town easily by bus. Our family celebration in the hall went well, with good food and a nice atmosphere. Thanks to the staff for their hospitality. Breakfast was generous and nicely presented. Our room was the snag. We were assigned one of the smaller double rooms, and the difference was obvious as soon as we walked in, though you can't tell in advance. The single bed had been turned around and another bed added, but there was only one chair. That wasn't ideal for four days. The website didn't mention the room difference, and there was no price difference between small and large rooms. The furnishings are dated, and old signs from the rehabilitation clinic are still everywhere. They'd be easy to take down. We'd come back, but we'd always ask which room we're getting.

The menu could use less meat, and I'd have liked oat milk at breakfast. Aside from that, I had a lovely short stay: the food was very good, the staff were exceptionally friendly, and my room was spacious and pleasant. I could use the pool whenever I wanted. They even moved me to a different room because the elderly gentleman next door snored so loudly.
