Ferienhof Schmauß

The children were happiest with the animals and the play spaces, from brushing and stroking the ponies to feeding rabbits and chickens, then running around in the hayloft and play barn. The evening campfire was another lovely moment, especially since we could gather the wood ourselves in the forest. We felt welcome as soon as we arrived at Schmauß Farm. The setting is peaceful, the hosts are warm, and the price felt fair. We'd gladly recommend it, and we're already looking forward to coming back.

The plentiful, healthy breakfast was a nice part of the stay, and with prior arrangement you can feed and look after the farm animals. We also enjoyed the rural feel, the homemade jam, and honey from the hosts' own bees. The heating unfortunately wasn't working for us, which meant a cold shower, and we were disappointed not to be offered guest cards. The Bavarian Forest setting is lovely, and dogs are welcome with lots of space to roam. Our room and bathroom were clean, and the kitchen had everything you'd expect in a holiday apartment. The landlady is kind, though a little eccentric, so her personality may take some getting used to. There are often families with children staying here, which could bother some guests. It didn't bother us. If you like a rustic place with animals, it's a good fit, especially for families.

The kids are included too, with explanations about what they should do and what they're allowed to do. Anyone who asks and understands animals can help whenever they like. We were warmly welcomed the first time and booked another holiday right away. We've stayed with Susanne twice now, and plan to return.

The beds stood out to us, they were comfortable, which hasn't always been the case at other farmhouses. Suzanne's place feels welcoming from the start, and the apartments are kept up well, have enough room, and are fully equipped. It's peaceful here with no passing traffic to disturb you. Kids have a big play attic and games room, and can spend time with the animals too. The regular evening campfires make for a cozy end to the day. There's enough to do nearby for a two-week holiday, and Austria and the Czech Republic are easy to reach. Suzanne's restaurant suggestions are worth following, as is her tip about the local butcher.
