Goldener Anker

Breakfast was the best of my whole trip: the sun finally came out, I could sit on the sun terrace instead of in the ballroom, there was plenty to choose from, and I met other cyclists. The night before, I’d had a nice meal in the restaurant, though it felt a bit posh. The room was spacious and modern, if quite warm, and its windows looked straight onto the market square. I left them open all night and was surprised at how quiet it was. I’d only ever passed through Torgau before, and found it a lovely, quaint little town. The Goldener Anker sits right on the market square and looks inviting from outside. The receptionist also served as the waitress. She checked me in, showed me where to park my bike, and told me every cyclist gets a free beer or shandy, a Radler in Germany. A very positive stay.

The building is quite old, and the reception wasn’t especially friendly. My room, though, was clean and comfortable.

The rooms are large and very clean, and the concierge was helpful. It’s a safe place to leave bikes. The location is central, though it’s expensive.

We were part of a big group, and the hotel was full. Its location is really good.
