Breakfast is simple, but they’ll make an omelet to order, and the coffee is good. The rooms are spacious and pleasant, though a little worn, and the bed is large and comfortable. It’s a decent three-star place right in the town center. It may be a bit pricey, but for three stars it’s pretty good and doesn’t try to be pretentious.

We had a very spacious room on the top floor, with a small balcony. Hotel Hoeltje is on a quiet street in the town center, and the owner clearly takes pride in making it comfortable and relaxed. Reception staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and always ready to help. Breakfast had cooked-to-order options alongside cold meats, cheeses, fruit and assorted bread, with friendly, helpful staff serving it. The bar is a popular spot for both locals and guests. We’ll come back.

The location is fine, but at this price the stay was a rip-off. We spent a week here and asked for the room to be cleaned after three days. When we went back to reception to ask why it hadn’t been done, we were told they don’t make the bed. They only vacuumed, and didn’t even clean the glasses or wipe the surfaces. The towels were so small I could barely wrap one around myself, and I’m a size 6. The breakfast was very poor. The fruit looked old and mushy, the “porridge” wasn’t porridge, and the only nice thing was the rolls with jam. Don’t expect to use the pool either. Apparently a part is missing and it’s broken. That should be reflected in the price, or guests should be told about the problem when they arrive. When we complained, the front desk staff were dismissive. Three women argued that we were lying about the service. After we said we’d complain online and mentioned that other people had been given a bottle of wine, another woman tried to take ours back. It had been given as a gift. The hotel and staff were very unprofessional and rude. Instead of getting angry with customers, they should listen to feedback and improve. I don’t recommend it.

For this price, I can’t recommend it. The rooms were in very bad condition, the front desk was rude, and there was no room service or swimming pool. Our glasses weren’t clean, the towels were small, and the breakfast was awful, with mushy fruit and vegetables. There were insects in the rooms, the corridors smelled, and we weren’t given clean sheets when we asked. Better rooms aren’t handed out, either. A bottle of water cost 2.80 euros, which is ridiculous. The staff’s poor English was also a real problem for a hotel with a 4.2 rating. Avoid it.
