Romantik Hotel Rindenmühle

Lucas looked after us so well at dinner. He was warm, attentive, easygoing, and knew the menu inside out, with great suggestions for matching food and whiskey. The whole experience at Romantik Hotel Rindenmühle exceeded what I expected from the moment I arrived, with its welcoming atmosphere and spacious, comfortable rooms. The food was outstanding, and everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. If Lucas is your server, you're in for a treat.

The hotel is run by the owning family, who clearly care about personal service and good food. That likely accounts for its positive reviews, though some guests may find the restaurant prices high. There's a pleasant open courtyard inside the complex, a lawn garden around the main building, a small outdoor pool, and a well-kept sauna and wellness area. The rooms and bathrooms are comfortably spacious, with the amenities you'd expect from a 4* Hotel. It's just beside a public swimming pool and a little outside Villingen's interesting city center. A train line passes behind the building, but the soundproof windows keep it barely audible. A few steps away is a Kurgarten called garden, though it doesn't look very well maintained.

I ordered Venison Stew at dinner on 14.10, but was served deer saddle instead. The waiter apologized but didn't offer to replace it. When the bill came, I was charged for the wrong dish, and we were pressed to sign before we could check it, so we ended up paying more. The ambiance was fine and the food was just okay. What a pity.

A real pleasure to eat here. The food is inventive and delicious, the staff are attentive and very friendly, and there's a great outdoor space.
