The breakfast was awful, with rock-hard overcooked bacon and scrambled eggs that were undercooked and runny. I was also disappointed by how the room was cleaned. The dirty rags from housekeeping were left on my desk, and even after I asked for fresh linen, the replacement bedding still had stains. They clearly didn’t vacuum: a cracker crumb I dropped on day one stayed in exactly the same place through my whole two-week stay. There were spiderwebs in the corners too. I didn’t pay this much to share a room with cobwebs. I have a photo of the rags, which shows how careless and unprofessional this felt. There’s no one at reception after 10 PM, so you need to arrive earlier. As far as I know, 24-hour reception is a basic requirement for a 4-star hotel, but this place doesn’t seem to care about standards. Calling it a “4-star” hotel is a joke. The German rating system clearly doesn’t match international standards. It’s barely like a basic American motel, and even one star feels generous. Absolutely terrible. I’d never recommend it.

Set among green forests in a beautiful location, this hotel offers good value for money. My room was clean and tidy, with a mini fridge and minibar as well as the standard equipment. The furnishings aren’t modern, which fits the setting. Breakfast had an excellent range, and there’s a comfortable parking lot. The only issue was arriving in the evening to find the doors locked and nobody at reception. I rang the bell for a while, then, luckily, a woman who’d finished her shift came out. I was able to get in, and she gave me my room card in an envelope that someone had left on the reception desk. It may have been a rare, random occurrence, but after that experience I would have taken off a star for service. Just to be safe, I suggest arriving before 21:00.

If you like the feel of a middle-class retirement home, this hotel might be for you. To me, it showed zero class or luxury. Our room felt like a tasteless working-class bedroom from the 90s, and the mattresses and pillows were uncomfortable. Forget a king- or queen-size bed in a double room: we got two small beds pushed together, with a gap between them that widened while we slept. The bathroom was clean, but the shower had clearly seen better days. You can pay 10€ extra for a riverside room if you want a bit more quiet than the roadside rooms, but don’t expect a view. We couldn’t see the river from our room. The service was slightly bad too. The receptionist at check-in seemed unmotivated and had a terrible sense of humour. She seemed to think guests were worth laughing at, and might make fun of your last name.

The ground-floor restaurant was very good, and there were lots of nice shops and cafes within walking distance. The room was clean and everyone was friendly. This was definitely one of the nicer hotels I’ve stayed in while in Germany.

We enjoyed the breakfast buffet and drinks at the bar. The room was very nice and modern, the service was good, and everyone was friendly. The location is good too, within walking distance of Schloss Weilburg.
