The location is just right, around a 10-15 minute walk from the city’s restaurants, coffee shops, and sights. The staff were very friendly and helped with all my questions and requests. When rain caught me on my bike, they even gave me extra towels to dry it off, which I really appreciated. Breakfast was simple but tasty. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Wernigerode.

There’s a pleasant forest path leading to the nearby castle. The hotel is clean and quiet, with a large parking area out front and okay Wi-Fi. It’s decent, but nothing especially perfect or special.

The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, which is why I’m giving one star. Apart from that, I can’t recommend this place if you want somewhere to relax after a long day. The noise made it impossible. Events ran on several consecutive days, which in itself is fine. I’m usually pretty tolerant, and the music alone would have been manageable. But there was stomping through the hallways, shouting, and doors banging shut every few seconds. I couldn’t sit still without flinching. A few accidental slams would be understandable, but it felt as if the building’s owners wanted to make my stay as unpleasant as possible. I know the event guests caused the trouble, but I’d expect the hotel owners to care about their overnight guests and remind event attendees how to behave. The hotel also felt badly neglected. Outside it looked run-down, and inside wasn’t much better. The yellow carpet was stained, as if a thousand animals had died on it. My room was dusty and full of cobwebs, and generally not nice to look at, though that’s partly a matter of taste. There was an almost empty toilet paper roll on the holder and just one spare. There’s no room service, so don’t expect fresh towels or extra toilet paper. The bathroom door wouldn’t open properly. The mattresses sagged and the pillows were shabby. There were plenty of electrical outlets, the only good thing I can say about the rooms. Breakfast was okay and filling, nothing special. The location is a mixed bag. It’s in the woods, which is a nice change of scenery, and a few hiking trails start right at the hotel. But town was about a half-hour walk for me. That’s just an observation, not necessarily a problem. If you’ll spend most of your time outdoors, it’s a great location. If you also want to explore town, you may prefer somewhere more central. I used to think I only needed a place to sleep, but that was naive. You should be able to feel comfortable and unwind in your room for a few hours, and I couldn’t do that here. I’d rather spend a little more and stay at another hotel.

We were overjoyed to find a place here after our original hotel turned out to be completely moldy. I called in an emergency on April 30th, needing a room for two adults, two children, and two dogs. Luckily, they had two rooms, numbers 30 and 31, joined by a little hallway, so it felt like we had a small apartment. We got a very warm welcome and were shown the rooms and the kitchen guests could use in the evenings. Drinks such as Coke and Fanta cost €2.50 per liter, which was excellent value. The bathrooms had recently been renovated, though the mattresses could do with replacing. Breakfast was tasty and had a good, generous selection. Dogs are welcome, and the children were treated incredibly well. We’ll definitely come back and wholeheartedly recommend the hotel. Thanks again for saving our vacation!
