Villa Lohne

Really good.

Parking can become a real problem when lots of guests arrive, since there are very few spaces. The house looks lovely from outside, but it blends in with the other houses on the traffic-calmed street, so it's hard to spot as a hotel. Inside, the rooms are dirty and there's mold in the refrigerator, though the beds are quite large. The showers are shared, and depending on how many guests are there, you may also have to share a bathroom. Staff only speak French, while the host knows only a little German.

The room and bathroom were clean, and the bed was okay. That's why I'm giving two stars. But the TV, which was part of the offer, didn't work, and the free coffee came without milk or sugar. I paid €50 for a night's sleep and a shower, and with service this poor, that price is out of the question. I can't recommend it. Communication was difficult because the provider's German was limited and everything went through WhatsApp. I tried calling for several weeks to clear up a few questions, but he only got in touch on his own the day before I arrived, when cancellation was no longer possible. Check-in was handled by the "caretaker," who arrived after I waited half an hour and didn't seem to know what he was doing. After I raised the problems, they offered me a free stay next time. I only come to Lingen once a year, and first impressions matter, so I'll pass. The confirmation and breakfast details described it as just bed and breakfast. Everyone can make up their own mind.

Having only two showers for five or six rooms makes coordinating toilet use a challenge. There was no breakfast, despite breakfast being included. The rooms were dirty, the bedspreads had been used, and there were no smoke detectors. Newspapers were scattered on the stairs, making it impossible to get down safely in a fire. One positive was the Dutch Indian who looks after everything. He tries hard.
