I had rented an apartment on Lindenstrasse from this same landlord three times through BOOKING and was happy with it. I asked to extend my stay until the end of February, and he agreed to rent me the apartment Maragaretenhof. While I was away, a big storm passed through Germany, and some moisture apparently appeared in the apartment. I hadn't seen it. The landlord became rude and unpleasant by email and SMS, even though I offered to pay if it was my fault. I had paid all of October 2023, yet he changed the lock and left me outside. The apartment was perfect when he photographed it, three days after I left. During earlier heavy rain, the wall had started getting wet. Whatever the damage was, changing the lock while someone is renting the place is not acceptable. In response, I did not use the washing machine seven times. I used it once. I paid 750 EUROs because I moved in during the second week, so I paid for more than 14 days. The apartment is back on Booking, which makes me think the pictures aren't current. I also never saw the moisture. The landlord is a liar: I did not do seven loads of washing in 14 days. I'll let rental agencies like Booking know that even after you pay, the lock can be changed and the apartment put back on the market. The least the landlord could have done was talk face to face and show me the damage, which I never saw. In France, changing a tenant's key would be a no-go.
