Hotel Am Park

Breakfast was listed for an extra fee, but everything was closed, so we had to go elsewhere. We booked for three, expecting a proper three person room, but there were just two beds and a stretcher for the third person. The room was dirty, with dust and cobwebs everywhere. The sink was broken and leaked from underneath, so we put the trash can below it to keep the floor and our feet dry. The door handle was broken too. We weren’t expecting much for the price, but getting even less was a bit of a shock. Wouldn’t recommend it.

The parking was right outside the rooms, motel-style, which was handy. We were travelling from Dunkirk to Berlin and stopped here. It’s a very basic road motel, as described, and I’m not sure what to make of the location. The room was clean, the beds were really comfortable, the towels fresh, and the shower hot. There was a blackout curtain, so we slept very well. Still, it felt like a zombie town. We didn’t see any staff, just some nutjob wandering around asking for his tablets / telephone. Reception was closed when we arrived at night, so we used self check-in by calling the number on the box. It was still closed in the morning. I’m satisfied with the stay, but wouldn’t be keen to return. :)

The check-in setup is really practical. Enter the pin from the e-mail at the entrance, and a drawer opens with your name, key, and room number. Then you just take the key and head to your room. Mine was clean, with hot water, heating, and a TV with German programs. Great.

The staff made this a good stay. The reception manager was professional, and both she and the breakfast room lady were really nice and friendly. The rooms were basic but pleasant, and breakfast was fresh and very good. I’d definitely come back.
